Let's Create ART Together!

Picture
Art education begins in young children as sensory exploration. Children construct their knowledge of the
world and discover possibilities by seeing and feeling a variety of materials. Realizing they can
control or manipulate artistic media (paint, crayons, clay) gives way to meaning making and establishing a
personal language
in their artwork.  Growth in the core areas of child development weaves alongside artistic development. As children use fine and gross motor skills to squeeze droppers of watercolor onto paper or paint at an easel they develop the skills needed to control their mark-making. Verbalizing their thoughts or actions supports visual language development as your child begins to connect to their artistic experiences.  Each class begins with circle time where the theme of the day is presented through song, dance, story, or observation. Children will be invited to explore different media while manipulating both familiar and artist-quality tools in open ended art investigations.
Your child will delight in the familiar, explore the new, and connect previous knowledge to new knowledge through the artistic process.
As their caregiver, your role in this class is to help translate their process of discovery to help facilitate their journey. But remember that this is their journey. Be supportive and helpful to them as they explore the room and make choices, and once they are familiar with the space they'll be much more interested in the art making process. When they make their art, it is theirs, and it will not start out looking like a reproduction of anything. That's ok! This is their time to explore materials, learn about "what happens?" when we try and manipulate new media that they've never seen before. The process of discovery usually looks pretty messy, but resist the temptation to step in and "fix" their art for them, just sit back, relax, and enjoy your time together knowing that you won't have to clean up the mess afterwards! ;)

-12 months to 3 years-
(1 hour
class)

This class provides loads of opportunities to enlighten the senses.  Come squish, squirt, roll, or drip paint, watch color explode onto canvas as bubbles pop, explore the properties of water, sand, or ice, ... we promise to delight! Every week a different new and exciting activity will prompt growth in key developmental areas in a creative atmosphere. As they experiment with artistic media and sensory play, they develop creative approaches that will facilitate problem solving skills later in life. Fine and gross motor skills are enhanced and cognitive growth is supported as connections are drawn among other disciplines (science, reading, or math).  Watch your child's inquisitive mind grow through this process of discovery.
7 week sessions. $140
